At this time, we share some thrilling information: the Terra Basis for American Artwork has awarded VoCA a $100,000 grant to assist a brand new collection of applications specializing in the work of up to date Native American artists!

VoCA’s Native Voices collection will embrace a devoted collection of VoCA Talks, Artist Interview Workshops, a problem of VoCA Journal, and partnerships with organizations that target working with Native American artists. The initiative will advance the perfect practices for the stewardship and care of up to date Native American artworks, one considerate program and distinctive relationship at a time.

In hallmark VoCA trend, a small, devoted committee of colleagues have spent years (actually!) growing this program collection. We’re indebted to our Board Vice President Marie Watt (Seneca) for her imaginative and prescient and management in laying the bottom for the initiative. Alongside Marie, a number of of our Board and Program Committee members labored to convey the collection to fruition. Thanks to our excellent working group:

  • Chad Alligood, Unbiased Curator (VoCA Board President)
  • Andrea R. Hanley (Navajo), Chief Curator, Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian (VoCA Board Member)
  • Kelly McHugh, Head of Collections Care and Stewardship, Nationwide Museum of the American Indian (VoCA Program Committee Member)
  • Steven O’Banion, Head of Conservation, Glenstone (VoCA Board Member)

We’re impressed by this expanded imaginative and prescient for VoCA’s future, and we’re already at work on subsequent steps. Please keep tuned for details about the primary artists to be featured within the collection – extra information on that coming in early 2023!
