HoMA Café’s Arnold Palmer with Ginger Lemonade

An Arnold Palmer is just a fancy way to order lemonade mixed with iced tea, but at HoMA Café, we spice ours up with a little bit of ginger, and it’s undoubtedly one of the most popular items on the menu. In our version of the drink, tropical iced tea floats atop house-made ginger lemonade, resulting in an exceptionally refreshing Arnold Palmer. Here’s how you can make it at home.

Ingredients
Iced tea*
Ginger lemonade
Water
Lemon slices (optional)

For the ginger lemonade
makes 2 liters
2 ounces finely chopped ginger
2 cups white sugar
10 ounces fresh lemon juice

1. Add 1 ounce of the ginger and lemon juice to a 2-liter pitcher.
2. In a saucepan bring two cups of water to a boil and add the sugar. Reduce heat to low and stir until sugar is dissolved, then add it to the pitcher.
3. Fill the rest of the pitcher with water (filtered is preferable, but from the tap is just fine) and taste. Add more of your ginger if you’d like it spicier.
4. Fill your fanciest glass with ice and pour in your ginger lemonade just halfway to the top. Then, slowly add iced tea, filling your glass to the brim.
5. Garnish with a lemon slice, raise your glass and enjoy.

*A note on tea: we recommend using an unsweetened black iced tea. You can also try a tea infused with something fun like mango, pomegranate or hibiscus flowers. Get creative!
