“Mark Armijo McKnight: Decreation” options new and up to date black-and-white pictures by Mark Armijo McKnight (b. 1984, Los Angeles, California; lives in New York, New York) and focuses on his ongoing physique of labor, Decreation. The idea, originated by the French thinker, activist, and mystic Simone Weil (1909–43), describes an intentional undoing of the self, a course of Armijo McKnight explores in pictures of our bodies and landscapes in intermediate states, equivalent to nameless nude figures engaged in erotic play amidst harsh environments. These pictures convey a way of each ecstasy and affliction. A brand new 16mm movie within the gallery performs a cacophonous symphony of regularly unwinding metronomes set inside the dramatic geological formations of the Bisti Badlands/De-Na-Zin Wilderness in New Mexico. Two giant limestone sculptures, which double as seating, recommend the types of a pair of historical sundials. As a complete, Decreation concurrently evokes tumult and quietude, darkness and light-weight, isolation and togetherness.
